Orenda

There is the moment before and the moment after you shot a gun, once you pulled the trigger there is no coming back. Can we understand the consequences of pulling a trigger? This is what we are exploring in the interactive installation "Orenda." Centered on an AR-15, viewers will have a chance to see, touch and pull the trigger. While the gun is not live, there is an aftermath effect if the viewer takes the shot. The wall facing them has a mirror aligned allowing patrons to view their reflection while interacting with the AR-15, once the trigger is pulled, light from inside illuminates showing them a broken mirror with a bullet spinning to its destination. On the other side of this wall, the bullets extrusion, a thermal printer that produces messages for the shooter..questions asking the audience "why did you shoot?," facts about school shootings, information on the NRA; we are asking the viewer to explore [both sides of] the problem.
