Birth of Blue

For this exhibition we focused on the creation of the color blue, not a common tint produced in nature; blue was first synthetically created by the Egyptians by grinding copper, sand, and alkali. Thus we begin our installation with copper and elevate to an array of blues.

The human eye perceives colors by their wavelength and blue hues are the shortest. By hanging layers of blue vellum we hope to mimic the transparency of the ocean. This illusion of feeling submerged underwater serves also a statement towards the current issues regarding sea level rise in South Florida.
